Gems

Gems.

Time slots are like little gems. Not the lettuce (although I do love gem lettuce). Rubies, tiger’s eyes, turquoise, pyrite, minerals. Sparkly and colorful but small, potentially full of worth. Collecting gems and stones like this, soon one can amass a small fortune.

Five minutes here, fifteen minutes there, a blissful 30 minutes elsewhere, to tie in right before the big submission slot, when you go to cash your gems in at the bank or to hock them at the pawn shop. Bank it, store up the writing while I can, I’ll edit it later when I get a full hour or two. At the moment, it’s the pawn shop for me, a small collateral until I can afford back my own jewelry. Not literally mind you, all of this is figuratively. A metaphor gone TWE style. Overstretched and dense.

Perhaps in this rant (in case you didn't notice -- no re-invention bananas today), it’s dawning on you that summer is coming and a massive blog break is due again. Well, you’re right. What little time I have over the next 12 weeks will focus on cubby holing my writing into pretty shiny time slots.

Maybe some of it will be fools’ gold, and maybe some might be diamonds --- most will be some where in between -- with a bit of polishing and feedback from my critics, I’ll start getting more rejection letters! Yes, it’s a part I am actually looking forward to happening. Well, that means I’ve really become serious about my writing. Getting to the point where the rejection letter is not a blow, but a boon to my writing and can only add to its shine and luster. Who knows? Maybe there will be an acceptance as well. But, man, I ain’t going for that just yet. I want rejection letters!!!

So with everything on: manuscripts, websites, volunteering, editing, traveling, catting, running, biking, swimming, hiking, sleeping, eating, playing games, and OH! writing my stories, I’m taking at least a MONTH off of blogging. I’m sure you’ll understand. I should be back on:
