Slogging Away, Take 2

Last week (4):

Word count and subject / topic writing went well, in my opinion. Two out of the 5 days I exceeded my quota, and the rest came pretty close except for Monday. Do the math. There are plenty of things to get angry about (the daily news)…. but of course, getting a hearing is still going to be tough…All things considered, my hectic schedule and all the things that pull/push me… I am doing fairly well with my writing goals.

For the most part, I managed to get up earlier, be writing in my paper or electronic journal for at least 15 minutes. Then I start the work day a bit earlier than normal, so I get my longer lunch break to go exercise. Starting earlier, I finish earlier, and therefore can sit and write again. Decided to use the online food shopping gig instead of faffing at the store when I am extra busy like this past few weeks. Cooking is still a fixed event, as is eating. Evenings, I think I need to get in the habit of winding down with a book instead of staring at the computer or even tv. But I like my shows! When am I going to watch my shows? Friday and Saturday nights?!? Ha! That’s fiction in of itself.

Friday was interesting -- every form of communication with the outside world was gone from the apartment… no tv, no internet, no phone. Well, I had the radio. The neighbor below had it blasting loud enough. Perhaps he is deaf. Of course I have radio, it’s not connected to the dastardly Cablecom box. The customer service man for the internet was supposed to connect me on towards the TV people I think.

It’s so funny – what went through my head…. “I can’t go three days without internet!! I can’t post my blog ahead of time and schedule it like I usually do!! I can’t do any research!! Life is hard!!”

How did we do research before the Internet? We went to the library, got the free newspapers and encyclopedias there. Amazing. Perhaps it is good to not rely on the Internet for everything. Get out, talk to people, visit the local library.

This week (5):

Character development. What’s that?? Perhaps a review is in order….sometimes I find my characters quite lacking in depth, and it could be why I am not so interested in the story after a while. So, if I invest more time up front, getting to know my characters, perhaps I will be more enthused to tell their story, in the proper story-telling way, that keeps you Dear Reader, wanting to know more.

Next week (6):

Build up stamina – get ready for long passages 2,000 words per day!!

Lastly, I realized I have a two-year “re-engineering” anniversary coming up on February 24th. There will be celebrations here! I’ve been doing this (for only) two years!! It does feel like forever some days. But I am in it, for the long haul.
